A shorter version of the pintail longboard from arbor is the arbor fish. This board was designed with a hyper-extended wheelbase with a concave profile that provides both carving and downhill riding functions. The koa fish longboard is constructed from 7-plys of hardrock maple that is very durable, lightweight and performance driven, it is toped with arbors unique hawaiian koa wood. Koa wood was used by the hawaiians to build the first surfboards thousands of years ago. All arbor longboard decks are gripped with a long lasting crushed recycled glass material. It is a clear grip surface which allows the natural wood grains of the boards to be visible. All arbor longboards are made using environmentally friendly water-based sanding sealer and finish coats. Arbor does everything possible to recycle any products used in the production of their longboards.

This arbor fish longboard should be set up with gullwing charger trucks to maximize its abilites of carving and downhill riding. A 65-70mm wheel would be perfect on this board with a medium/soft durometer. I would recommend a good bearing for this board that will last very long like the bones swiss bearings as this board was built to last.

Arbor’s old-school pool shape – the Oso was designed with a classic fat shape, stub nose, and square tail, then upgraded with a bit of concave for more modern transition-level skating. The Oso is built with 7-plys of sustainably sourced Hardrock Maple for durable, lightweight performance, and a stringer-style finish ply of sustainably sourced Hawaiian Koa, Maple, and Walnut that is designed to improve return. Each deck is gripped with a long-lasting crushed recycled glass. This ultra clear grip surface allows the deck’s natural grain and color to remain highly visible, while providing better performance than silica bead alternatives. Arbor skates are made using an environmentally friendly water-based sanding sealer and finish coat. All wood byproduct created during production is reclaimed for use in other Arbor products or by outside companies. Rogue Status co-founder and Venice-based tattoo and design icon, Rex Holloway created the El Dia Day Los Muertos bandito design for the Oso.

I would pair this old school arbor longboard with some old skool Independent 169mm trucks. The super wide stance and perfectly designed bushings allow for nice smooth riding. Depending on if you just want to cruise the board or are looking to hit the skate parks will determine the wheels you want. If you are looking to cruise I recommend a soft 60-65mm wheel with some bones reds bearings pressed into them.

The new kelly slater longboard

Created with friend and 9x ASP World Surfing Champion Kelly Slater. The new swallowtail shape was inspired by some of the boards Kelly has been surfing of late. This new tapered, concave design is fast down the line and provides the tightest turning available from any of Arbor’s carve-oriented skates. The Slater is built with 7-plys of sustainably sourced Hardrock Maple for durable, lightweight performance, and a finish ply of sustainably sourced Hawaiian Koa to improve return and add that traditional Arbor style. Koa wood was used by the Hawaiians to build the first surfboards 1,000 years ago. Venice based Artist, Jake Pickle developed a graphic for the Slater Series to highlight Kelly’s life – surfing, music, travel, and friends.

The arbor kelly slater longboard is best suited with 10″ gullwing charger trucks to create a maximum amount of stability at higher speeds. I would pair it up with some nice arbor wheels at 65-70mm in size. I would also put some bones swiss bearings on it as they create tons of speed and will last forever!

Arbor’s more compact flex-style pin – the Mindstate is a gunny, slightly concaved carver that was developed to deliver a fun, energetic ride and tons of rebound for responsive turning. The new Mindstate is built with 4-plys of sustainably sourced, fiberglass-reinforced Hardrock Maple that delivers memory, return, and ultra-lightweight performance, and a finish ply of sustainably sourced, Hawaiian Koa veneer that adds important pop out of turns, as well as that traditional Arbor style. Koa wood was used by the Hawaiians to build the first surfboards 1,000 years ago. Celebrated lowbrow artist, Blain Fontana created a graphic, for the Mindstate that reflects aspects of the Arbor state of mind.

This new arbor longboard is best suited with 9″ gullwing charger trucks. The trucks really work well with the flex of the board and allow you to create speed out of turns. I would also pair it up with 69mm sector 9 slalom wheels which grip the ground and create lots of friction to allow for harder sharper turns. It would also be nice to create more speed by adding some Rush Ceramic bearings to this longboard for maximum performance.

Bamboo Carving Style Longboard

The bamboo pintail longboard from arbor is a perfect classic tapered-carver style longboard. The Arbor Pin features a huge wheelbase for maximum stability at speed, and a wide, concaved mid-section for deep, open-stance, lock-n-hold skating. The Bamboo Longboard is built with 6-plys of sustainably sourced Hardrock Maple for durable, lightweight performance, and a renewable, power-generating Bamboo deck that creates that clean, Zen flavor. Venice based Artist, Jake Pickle created the Bamboo Pin’s stylized Asian graphic.

Put some nice red 70mm wheels on this board to match it up with the bottom graphic and you’re just about ready to carve some hills. I would recommened some 10″ gullwing charger trucks and some bones reds bearings thrown in between the trucks and wheels for a smooth fast ride.

All about the Koa Pin Longboard

This arbor longboard is a classic tapered-carver. The Arbor Pin features a enormous wheelbase (32.25″) for maximum stability when at high speed, and a wide, concaved mid-section (9.5″) for deep, open-stance, lock-n-hold skating. The length of the pin longboard is 46″. The Koa Pin is built with 7-plys of sustainably sourced Hardrock Maple for durable, lightweight performance, and a finish ply of sustainably sourced Hawaiian Koa to improve return and add that traditional Arbor style. Koa wood was used by the Hawaiians to build the first surfboards 1,000 years ago. Arbor used a recent painting by artist, Blain Fontana to create the Koa Pin’s graphic and speak to the brand’s California roots.

My recommended set-up for this board would have to be the paris 180mm trucks. The wide stance and smooth turning of these trucks really make this board a true carver style longboard. For the wheels I would recommend arbor longboards 70mm wheel, it’s a perfect size for this board. And for the bearings I would go with rush abec 7 bearings as they are such a great bearing for the low cost!

Review of the New Sector Nine Carbon TR3 Longboard

The sector 9 carbon tr3 is the newer styled carbon trylam from the platinum series of the past. This is a great overall board with high performance capabilites and a nice price tag! The deck is constructed from 4 plies of maple wood with layers of carbon fiber (adds strength reduces weight) and fiber glass (adds flex and reduces weight). It is a mid ranged sized board at 38 inches long but is incredibly light weight due to the construction of the board. The board has a small to medium amount of flex when it is brand new but tends to become more flexy as you break the board in. It comes in 3 colors; red, blue, and also black. The wheelbase is 29 inches long which allows for quick turns with a nice smooth feel.

My recommended set up for this sector 9 longboard would be some 10″ gullwing charger trucks. The wide stance of the board will give it a lot of stability at higher speeds. You really want a wheel that is in the 70-75mm range as these larger sized wheels will allow for optimal speed. I would also recommend the new sector 9 platinum series bearings or even the racing bearings for the more advanced rider wanting to get the most out of the board.

Review of Sector 9 Wings Longboard

This mini platinum series longboard a great campus cruiser board. It is vertically laminated with aspen and mahogany wood and wrapped in fiberglass. It is probably one of the lightest boards in the sector 9 series. It has a medium amount of flex for those who prefer a flexible longboard deck. Also the deck was just recently updated with a new bottom graphic for the 2009 year. The wheelbase is is just over 20 inches long which is pretty short. The short wheelbase on this mini longboard allows for super sharp turns and great manueverability around campus or the streets.

My recommended set up for this sector 9 longboard would be some 9″ gullwing charger trucks to maximize the turning capabilities of this little cruiser. A mid ranged sized wheel from 62-65mm in size fits the board perfectly without wheel bite and allows for a fast smooth ride. I would pop some bones reds bearings into the wheels as they are a very reliable bearing for a good price!

The Fleetwood is a 43″ long carver made with a little wider shape, giving it a more relaxed ride – the Fleetwood is the perfect carver for most longboarders. Arbor Fleetwoods are made with all the personal attention and high grade materials and parts that Arbor is well known for.

Arbor Fleetwood – Hand Made from Hawaiian Koa Wood

Arbor makes their boards from real Hawaiian Koa wood – Koa has the widest range of colors of any wood on Earth. Serious! This wood is beautiful, and has been used for ages by Hawaiians to make surfboards. The wood has strength, flex, and the colors are rich.

When used to make an arbor longboard like the Arbor Fleetwood, the Koa wood gives a smooth, comfortable ride. The wood doesn’t feel soggy, but does give a great response. When standing on the Fleetwood, you feel it give just the right amount under your weight, and when bending into curves, the Fleetwood gives a soft, comfortable feedback.

The Arbor Pintail “Pin” is a carving style longboard with a long wheel base that creates smooth turns. It has a the widest point in the center of the board with tapered nose and tail to allow for a good sized wheel, with smooth hard carving turns. The Arbor Pin longboard’s deck is made with true Hawaiian Koa wood to add strength and beauty, and to reach back to the longboard’s hawaiian roots in surfing. This is the longest board Arbor makes, with the widest wheel base. it’s perfect for carving up the streets.

The pintail from arbor longboards is a pure sidewalk surfer. Its tapered shape, shallow concave with no tail kick, and the placement of the extra wide trucks in the very extreme nose of the board all set the Arbor Pin apart from other longboards as a true carver. Add to that the style of the rich Koa wood finish and the liquid blue wheels and you have a longboard you can fall in love with.
